Dr. Prof. Engr. Christian L. Bomela, Ph.D.

Dr. Prof. Engr. Christian Bomela, Ph.D. is currently a Mechanical engineering professor, expert in energy and fluid systems, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and mechanical measurements at The Catholic University of America (CUA).
Dr. Bomela joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering as a Clinical Assistant Professor in August 2017. Before joining CUA, Dr. Bomela was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana since August 2015, and a Visiting Assistant Professor at Dalian Jiao Tong University in Dalian, China in the Summer of 2016. Dr. Bomela received both his Ph.D. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, USA (UNC Charlotte) respectively in 2014 and 2010. While pursuing his Ph.D., he was an adjunct Faculty at the Central Piedmont Community College, USA (CPCC) from 2010 to 2015 where he taught the Introduction to Engineering course and an Instructor of Engineering Thermodynamics at UNC Charlotte from Fall 2011 to Spring 2012. He also received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Professor Bomela also worked as a Mechanical Engineering Practical Works’ Instructor at the Polytechnic College of the University of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo from 2000 to 2003, and an Engineer in Charge of High voltage stations at the DRC national power company (SNEL) from 2001 to 2003. Dr. Bomela is a former President of the Congolese Community of Charlotte, Charlotte, North Carolina from 2013 – 2017 and former Vice–President of the organization from 2010 - 2013. His interests include Energy Systems and their Analysis, as well as excellence in teaching through student engagement techniques improving student learning and retention in Fluid Mechanics and Heat transfers, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Turbomachinery, and Mechanical Measurements.
